President's Message - 2010-2011
We begin a new year, our 26th as the West Island District. This year brings us significant change as well as challenges. Our new professional designation (SCMP / p.g.ca.) has recently been launched, and with the new designation, we have a new education program to offer in Quebec. We also face challenges of declining membership. This is significantly due to the fact that with the transition of the education program, we have not had new student members enrolling in the past three years. Historically, our membership growth has come from students enrolling in the education programs.
The number one priority for our success and growth will be the successful launch of the SCMP and Purchasing Certificate programs with the English Universities and CEGEP’s in Montreal. CAQ, our Provincial Institite of PMAC has launched the new programs with several French Universities and CEGEP’s over the past year. The next step will be to launch the English programs. This will allow our members to take relevant courses in Purchasing and Supply Management for professional development as well as to earn continuing education maintenance credits. Now that the maintenance program in effect for Quebec SCMP’s, it will be important for our members to have access to courses to maintain their designation.
I will work to represent our members within the CAQ and to prioritize the launch of the new education programs accessible to members in our District.
I look forward to meeting each of you at our upcoming District networking events.
Sincerely,
George Craigie, C.P.P., C.P.M.
President
West Island District
